OK, this post is well outside my typical post material. The following is the dates of the concussions suffered by Eric Lindros throughout his NHL career, and which player helped him get concussed.
March 7, 1998 - Darius Kasparitis- December 29, 1998 - Jason Wiemer
- January 14, 2000 - Chris Tamer
- March 4, 2000 - Hal Gill
- May 4, 2000 - Francis Lessard
- May 27, 2000 - Scott Stevens
- December 28, 2001 - Mark Smith
- Janaury 29, 2004 - Jason Doig
Most people know that my interest in sports ranges anywhere from vaguely interested to entirely oblivious. Sports statistics do not generally take up a lot of space in my head. So, it's a little bit out of character for me to have such a list, especially considering not all 8 incidents are well known, and took some research to find.
It happened like this. One coworker challenged another coworker (the one whose brain actually is crammed full of sports statistics) to list the 9 incidents in which Eric Lindros was concussed before gave up playing hockey. He, tongue-in-cheek, offered a free lunch if the information could actually be produced. Me, always up for a free lunch, and sensing an opportunity to beat someone at their own game, inquired if I could get a free lunch if I provided the requested info first. The requester seemed ambivalent to the source of the info, so the Google race began.
In the end, we both came up info about the same time. The sports fanatatic's was more detailed (drawing on info already in his brain) than mine, but I found Hal Gill when he didn't. And we both concluded that there were only 8 incidents, not 9.
Oh, and the food was offered in jest. The old axiom remains true. There is no free lunch.
